24th April
First I get two hours of guitar practise done. This is great for me as I haven't practised my pieces for Gunter, my guitar teacher in Wellington, for a few days and I tend to get edgy about this.
Then Zita and I drive up to Isny - about 10 kms away. I go to check out the Internet Cafe. E3 / hour. And everything works well. The connection speed is good. The camera connections without problem. At last! Good old Germany. So I spend time adding photos and that now goes easily. Finally.!
I try to organise the Blog a bit better. It has all been a bit haphazard and it will just have to do. I will do more tomorrow.
At 2.30 Hubert and family arrive at Gebhards place. Zita, Beate and Elizabeth go off to Wangen to buy new earings for Beate (Communion present) and I head off on a cycle tour with the boys (Hubert, Zita's brother and his two sons, Markus and Stephan.) The plan is about 60 kms, back roads and trails. 1000 metres of climbing. We cycle through fields that are pure yellow with spring daisies. Soon the Voralpen to the south come into view and for much of the next hour we have great views of these of these mountains I know so well.
At one point we have a great descent through forest and steep farm hillsides on a rough little track before a 300 metre climb to our high point at the town of Sulzberg. Here in front of the restaurant is a panorama karte - an engraved map on a metal plate showing the names of all the mountains that can be seen from this point and their direction. Not only my well known ones but others that are new to me.
We have a drink and icecream at the restaurant before heading home, another 30 kms but mainly downhill. As we cycle past, now with jackets on in the cool air, Hubert shows me the hall where he first met Elizabeth at a dance 20 years ago.
We arrive home at 8pm. It is still light - and Zita has bought Leberkase and bread rolls for dinner for us.
Over dinner we talk more about our bike tour on the coming weekend in the mountains of South Germany and Austria.
