10th April - Barcelona
I wake at 2am with a deep need for the toilet!. Down the hallway and my bowels empty themselves completely. Then the need to vomit. That awful feeling before something arrives. And then my stomach is also emptied. Enough detail! Who knows what it was. But it was certainly something. The rest of the night and the rest of the next day my body continues to work hard at expelling something unpleasant. I hate being ill so far from home - it fightens me. (not that I am so keen on being ill at home either).I spend the day sleeping., going to the toilet, vacantly watching CNN TV, and trying to start replacing some of the lost fluid. It is good to have a nurse for a wife! At least she can keep some perspective on whether I am about to die or not. I also worry about our next days travel to Rome wit bs and plane and then with rental car to Assisi. Will I be needing toilets when they aren't available or vomiting in inappropriate places?

9th april - Barcelona
Today we walk down 'Los Rambles' in the opposite dirrection to Plaza del Catalunya'. Down towards the sea. I investigate an Internet Cafe. for bloggong potential. Along the water front to what was once a large wharehouse ut is now the Historical Museum of Catalonia. Catalonia is fiercely proud of it's Nationhood. It has desires to be aseperate state. I found the tie of Franco as described to be so very sad and disturbing. So much barbaric violence committed against so many innocent people . Such a terrible part of our world, when people use violence and power to subjugate and destroy. It is a part of the human story which is hard to bare.
We move on to the Picasso museum. Picasso spent quite a lot of his life in Barcelona. 100's of his works were displayed - he was soooo prolific. Being of somewhat conservative taste perhaps, I 'didn't get' much of his moe modern stuff. But his early work appealed - and was so varied an unexpected. Sweet little rocky coasts, yatchs at sea. But all the standing around gets to my back and the pain spoils my enjoyment and concentration.Walking home 'across town' through alley's and squares, we find a toasted filledroll type place for our dinner.

Hi It's Mum/Joyce

Glad to recieve your first blog. I know that you arrived saftely in barcelona. We had a wonderful easter here. Karen and Lindsay and the boys enjoyed their time at Kinloch. The marina is still not fully finished, but is slowly making towards completion. It was quite chilly aparantly so they had the fire going...:)

We are having a "Bring and Buy" next Sunday to raise money for the New Zealand stroke foundation and the East Timorese people. I'm even going to do a bit of baking because that always brings in quite a lot of money.

My Gardener was here yesterday and he took about three of the Lavender bushes out because they are practically dead. Lavender is only suposed to last about 7 years. I Don't really know what to put in there instead.

I wonder how your vegetable garden is coming along. I bought a new collar for Swelbly, I'll never get her name right :P

The vet place in Karori lost one of their clients, a small dog... He slipped his collar. The last time he was seen was in cook street and someone from the vets was going to every house trying to find him. Lets hope he turns up.

It was loveley hearing from you over the phone.

Love Mum/Joyce

P.s.- Just had a lovely dinner with karen and lindsy and boys.

Hi Mike and Zeta

This is the first chance I have had to check out your blog.

It sounds as though you are having a great time. I had a very pleasant time away in Christchurch, Adelaide and Melbourne - would have been nice to have more time available, but managed to see quite a few family and friends in that time. Back to work on Monday.

I am going in today to see Philippa about the programme etc for O'Shea Shield. That should be interesting.

Keep enjoying yourselves and good luck with all your plans.

XX Greg
